Germany wins first-ever ladies’ ski jumping team competition

The German Ladies’ ski jumping team made history this week, winning the first-ever ladies’ team competition at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld! The team included skiers Juliane Seyfarth, Ramona Straub, Carina Vogt, and Katharina Althaus.

The winning team scored 898.9 points, while the Austrian team (including Eva Pinkelni, Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, Chiara Hoelzel, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz) came in second place with 880.3 points, and Norway came in third at 876.9 points. The Norwegian team included skiers Anna Odine Stroem, Ingebjoerg Saglien Braaten, Silje Opseth, and Maren Lundby.

The German team were the favourites to win, considering their success in the team events so far. The nation also won the Nordic combined team sprint event with skiers Eric Frenzel and Fabian Rießle, and also the men’s ski jumping team event with Karl Geger, Richard Freitag, Stephan Leyhe, and Markus Eisenbichler.

Ramona Straub, who is apart of the German Ladies’ team showed the best performance of her team, with many saying that she would have even won the race if it was an individual competition. Straub shared some of her thoughts after the race:

“I had a good feeling right from the start on this hill, I have no idea why. Somehow I knew that it’ll go well today. Even bad jumps were good”, She also said that “team events are the most fun, but at the same time I hate them because I’m so nervous and it’s so extremely exciting.”

With only a few more days left of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, crowds are ecstatic to see the remaining events. Currently, Norway is in the lead with the most medals, with Germany and Sweden in second and third place. Here is the full medal table as of 28th February 2019.
