With the Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre finally at a close, it’s time to recap all the excitement that went down in Sweden! From Mikaela Shiffrin proving herself once again, to Aksel Lund Svindal making the final mark of his international career. Here’s a recap of some of the biggest moments of this year’s Alpine Ski Championships.
We saw the most successful female Alpine skier in history, Lindsey Vonn, retire from the sport after her Bronze win at the World Championships. Austrian skier, Aksel Lund Svindal, also took the final race of his career, winning silver in the Downhill event.
No surprises with Mikaela Shiffrin – the skiing star has been the one of the most exciting athletes to watch this championship. With 2 golds, and 2 bronze under her belt, she’s proven her break to give her body some time to recover was well worth it.
Another great moment was the triple Austria win in slalom, with Marcel Hirscher winning gold, Michael Matt winning silver, and Marco Schwarz securing bronze to make Austrians proud.
Here are the top 10 nations and their medal tallies.
